Katy Teeter – GR Homeshare

Get to know Katy:

What do you actually do all day?
I field inquiries about GR Homeshare, process applications, and conduct interviews with prospective clients. I am also honing my matchmaking skills, preparing for this wonderful new adventure up which I am embarking, being GR Homeshare. I am working to create successful partnerships between our clients, but also, between our program and other community organizations, so there is a lot of networking, emails, meetings, calls, etc.

What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the people. At New Development Corp, I have met and worked with the most amazing women and men so dedicated to community improvement and involvement. There is a real feel here; that if you can dream it, you can do it, and is totally due to the spirit and energy of this group.

If you had a superpower, what would it be and why?
I am torn. I have always wanted to fly. Just soar, wind flowing over me, but I think I may need to have what my son calls “super speed”. I would never be late again! I hate being late, but sometimes it is just inevitable with wrangling an 8 year old.

What does “HOME” mean to you?
Home is a place where I can kick off my shoes, relax, and enjoy the company of my son and any friends or family that may be there. Our home is truly the “family home” where we all congregate on holidays and birthdays. The neighborhood is also a very large part of feeling “at home” for me. Having known most of our neighbors since I was a child gives me a sense of home all by itself. So, HOME is really all about the people, too!

If your House could talk, what would it say about you?
My house has seen so much, it is difficult to say what it might say. Three kids having grown up there, and now another on that path, it may say, “have fun!” But, to be honest, it may also say, “clean and organize me better”, but whose house wouldn’t say that, right? Right?

If you could have dinner with any community activist, past or present, who would it be? What would you ask him or her?
One of my most favorite people is a brilliant woman named Ivone Gebara. She is a Brazilian nun that writes and works towards social and environmental justice. The Ecofeminism view she brings is amazing. I would ask her how she had the wherewithal to stand up to the Vatican, be “silenced” for two years, and STILL keep her Catholic faith?
